Whether you are are dog or a cat person, or a bit of both, there is no denying that cats certainly have their own way of dealing with the world. Here’s five things you can learn from a cat.
1. Composure. Cat’s have the inner peace of a zen monk. Cat’s are calm in the face of adversity, and tranquil when all around them are fussed and upset. Cool has a name, and it’s name is Cat.
2. Patience. Have you ever seen a cat stalking a mouse? They lay totally still, with perhaps just their tail giving a slight flicker occasionally, waiting for just the right moment to pounce. And if the mouse gets away, they don’t get upset or angry, they just keep waiting.
3. Sleep. Where do they get all this composure and patience? I put it down to the fact that cats sleep 16 to 20 hours a day. Sleep is good for you. Even a nap can relax and invigorate you. Cats are usually so relaxed they are like a walking nap.
4. Sharing. I’m not talking about food here. Most pets don’t go overboard in the food sharing department. I’m talking about affections. Sure dogs have cats beat when it comes to the amount of affection they share with their masters, but cats give good quality affection. You almost feel privileged when a cat deigns to share some affection with you.
5. Silence. Picture a quite house. Everything is still. Next to the window, soaking up the last rays of sunlight is a cat. It sits, unmoving, just staring out the window. When you enter the room, it’s tranquility and peacefulness remains unbroken — it hardly even looks in your direction. Now imagine how a dog would react: tail wagging, wet tongue panting, jumping up and down, maybe even a small bark. Cats know how to get the most out of a quiet moment. If silence is golden, cats are worth their weight in it.
